Cancel an order on Shopify step by step
To cancel an order in Shopify, follow these simple and clear steps:
- Log in to your Shopify admin account.
- Go to the Orders section in the main dashboard.
- Select the order you wish to cancel by clicking on it.
- On the order detail page, find and click the Cancel order button.
- You will then have several options to select:
- Restock items: This allows you to return products to inventory.
- Send a notification to the customer: Indicates whether you want to inform your customer about the order cancellation.
- Refund: You can also choose to issue a partial or full refund.
- Once you have selected the desired options, click Cancel order to finalize the process.
For example, let's say you have a Shopify agency selling clothes, and a customer places an order for a jacket. However, after checking your inventory, you realize the jacket is out of stock. So you decide to cancel the order. You log in to your Shopify account, go to the Orders section, find the jacket order, and click Cancel order. You choose to restock the jacket and send a notification to the customer to inform them of the cancellation. Finally, you issue a full refund.
