Clone a Shopify store
Cloning a Shopify store might seem like a daunting task, but with the right tools and steps, it's entirely achievable. Here's how to do it:
- Export data from your existing store:
- Log in to your Shopify dashboard.
- Go to "Products," then click "Export." Choose the options you want for the export (all data, a selection of products, etc.).
- Save the CSV file to your computer.
- Create a new store:
- Go to the Shopify website and sign up for a new store. Fill in the necessary information.
- Once the store is created, access your new Shopify dashboard.
- Import data into the new store:
- Go to "Products" in your new store's dashboard.
- Click "Import" and choose the CSV file you exported previously.
- Verify that all products and information have imported correctly.
- Replicate other elements (themes, settings, etc.):
- For themes, go to "Online Store" > "Themes." Click "Upload theme" and upload the theme file you were using in your old store.
- Reapply your payment, shipping, and tax settings by consulting the settings in your dashboard menu.
Last year, a jewelry company called "Perles et Cristaux" decided to expand its market internationally. They wanted to keep the essence of their original store while creating a new one, adapted to an international clientele. After following the steps above, they were able to replicate their entire product catalog and their superb custom theme without losing any information. The project's author decided to directly translate the textual content via a CSV file before importing it into the new store, which saved considerable time and ensured consistency between the two stores. The result: a successful expansion with a store ready to welcome a new audience in just a few days.
