How to add Mondial Relay to Shopify (complete 2026 tutorial)

Pickup points are one of the French's preferred delivery methods. Here's how to properly connect Mondial Relay to Shopify: native pickup point, official app, labels, and the pitfalls we see in audits.

Comment installer Mondial Relay sur une boutique Shopify ? Tout ce que vous devez savoir est ici !

Yes, Mondial Relay integrates with Shopify, and there are now two real methods: Shopify's native pickup point, which displays the relay point map directly at checkout on all plans, and the official Mondial Relay app, which connects you to your own Mondial Relay Pro account. The right option depends on your volumes and negotiated rates, and this guide gives you our complete decision tree: step-by-step setup, labels, actual costs, and pitfalls. At Stellar, we have configured relay point delivery on dozens of Shopify stores delivered by the agency: here is the method we apply, and what most online tutorials have not yet updated.

Why offer relay points

Relay point delivery, along with home delivery, is one of the two preferred delivery methods for French online shoppers: cheaper for the customer, more flexible for their schedule, and no risk of packages left on the doorstep. A French store that does not offer it risks avoidable cart abandonment: customers who are used to picking up their packages near their home, a few euros cheaper than home delivery, will leave a checkout that does not offer them this option. On the stores we create on Shopify, the question is never "should we offer relay points," but "by what method should we connect it properly." And that's where everything has changed recently.

The 4 ways to connect Mondial Relay to Shopify

The short answer: there are four ways, and the first is little known because it is recent. Most tutorials still claim that "Shopify does not natively manage relay points": this has been false since Shopify deployed native pickup points in France.

Method Relay point selection For whom Cost
Shopify native pickup point Before payment, map and list at checkout, all plans Stores without negotiated Mondial Relay contract, low to medium volumes No app, labels at Shopify's negotiated rates
Official Mondial Relay app After payment (before payment on Shopify Plus only) Brands with a Mondial Relay Pro account and negotiated rates From $14.90/month + your Mondial Relay contract
Shipping aggregators Depending on the tool, generally after payment Multi-carrier (Sendcloud, Boxtal manage Mondial Relay among others) Subscription + aggregator rates
Custom development Fully customizable Specific logistics, large volumes, need for orchestration Dedicated development project

The fourth way is to connect a carrier via the Shopify API: reserved for needs that neither native nor apps cover. For 9 out of 10 stores, the real trade-off is between the first two lines of the table, and we detail it below.

Tutorial: activate the native pickup point

The native pickup point can be activated in about ten minutes, without an app and without a Mondial Relay account. It is available for stores with a shipping location in France, for domestic shipments, on all Shopify plans. Here's how:

  1. Open Settings then Shipping and delivery in your Shopify admin.
  2. In the Additional shipping methods section, click on Pickup points.
  3. Select your shipping location, then enable Ship to pickup points from this location.
  4. Choose the carriers to offer: Mondial Relay and Colissimo are the two networks available in France.
  5. Configure your rates: flat rate, weight ranges, or price ranges. Enter 0 to offer free relay point delivery above a threshold.
  6. Place a test order: at checkout, the Pickup point tab appears next to Shipping, with the map, list of nearby points, opening hours, and price.

The customer chooses their relay point before paying, on a map or in a list, exactly as on major e-commerce sites. The address of the selected point is attached to the order, and the label can then be purchased directly in the admin. No widget to install, no code: this is currently the cleanest way to start.

Native Mondial Relay and Shopify integration

The official Mondial Relay app: when and how to use it

The official Mondial Relay - InPost app retains a decisive advantage that the native solution does not offer: it connects to your own Mondial Relay Pro account, and therefore to your negotiated rates. It also adds bulk labels, manifests, return labels, SMS notifications, and the InPost networks in Spain, Italy, and Portugal. Configuration: install the app from the Shopify App Store, connect your Mondial Relay Pro credentials, define your zones and your rates by weight range, and activate the desired delivery methods (relay point, locker, home delivery).

Its limitation is well-known: outside of Shopify Plus, an app cannot display the Mondial Relay widget for selecting the relay point in the checkout. The customer therefore chooses their point after payment, via the tracking link for their order, and if no one chooses, a point near the home is automatically assigned after approximately 24 hours. Many see this as a prohibitive drawback. Our experience says otherwise:

“On dozens of non-Shopify Plus stores equipped with the Mondial Relay app, we have observed no negative impact on the conversion rate compared to a pre-payment choice, on one condition: clearly mark the journey. The delivery method label must clearly state "Choice of pickup point after payment". When it's written in black and white at checkout, the customer knows what to expect and confusion disappears.”
Volkier Bentinck, co-founder of Stellar Projects

This is more about method than technicality: the problem has never been the post-payment choice itself, but the unannounced post-payment choice. Name your delivery methods precisely, indicate the delivery time and the time of point selection, and the app will work smoothly on a standard plan.

Print labels and track packages

With the native solution, everything happens in Shopify: the Mondial Relay label is purchased from the order, at Shopify's negotiated rates, it is billed to your Shopify account (debited as soon as a label spending threshold is reached, otherwise on the monthly invoice), and the tracking number is automatically sent to the customer. Two constraints to be aware of: box packaging is mandatory, and there is no scheduled pickup, you drop off your packages at a relay point or agency.

With the official app, generation is done from the app interface, individually or in bulk, with an end-of-day manifest: it's the tool designed for volumes. Shipments are billed by Mondial Relay on your Pro contract, separately from your Shopify invoice, and tracking statuses are sent back to Shopify to trigger customer notification emails.

How much does it cost, and how to arbitrate

The native solution costs no subscription: you only pay for labels, at the rates of Shopify's framework agreement with Mondial Relay, visible at the time of purchase in the admin (Shopify does not publish a price list). The official app costs from $14.90 to $139.90/month depending on the plan, plus your shipments billed by Mondial Relay at your Pro account rate. The arbitration comes down to two rules:

  • Are your Mondial Relay Pro rates + the monthly cost of the app cheaper than the native labels? Take the app connected to your account; it's mathematical as soon as the volume is there. Mark the journey as described above, and the post-payment choice will cost you nothing in conversion.
  • No negotiated rates, or a volume that does not justify a subscription? The native solution wins: zero app, choice of point before payment on the map, and correct label rates without negotiation.

Calculate over a real month of shipments: unit cost of the label for each weight range, multiplied by your volumes, plus the subscription. This comparison, never the app itself, should decide. To place the app in your overall stack, our selection of essential apps gives you the order of magnitude for a healthy app budget. And if you're coming from WooCommerce where your Mondial Relay plugin was free, our guide to migrating from WooCommerce to Shopify details how to rebuild your logistics identically.

Relay point delivery costs less than home delivery, making it the best candidate for free shipping. The question remains where to set this threshold: this is the subject of our guide on which delivery strategy to adopt.

The 4 pitfalls we see in audits

Four errors regularly appear in the audits of French stores that we conduct:

  • Accelerated checkouts mask the pickup point. A customer who pays in one click via Apple Pay, Google Pay, or PayPal never sees the native pickup point option. If your audience mostly pays by express, measure the proportion of affected orders before putting all your eggs in the native basket.
  • Poorly defined weight ranges. A range that stops at 2 kg when your packages weigh 2.1 kg makes the relay point disappear from the checkout, silently. Test each range with real orders.
  • Vague delivery labels. "Standard delivery" says nothing. "Mondial Relay pickup point delivery, 3 to 5 business days, choice of point after payment" says everything. It's the clear labeling that protects your conversion, whatever the chosen mechanism.
  • Ignored automatic assignment. With the app outside of Plus, a customer who does not choose their point within 24 hours is assigned a relay point near their home. If your customer service doesn't know this, each "I didn't choose this point" becomes an avoidable ticket instead of a one-sentence answer.

A word about native orders: they cannot be modified after validation, so notify your logistics team. And keep in mind that the landscape changes quickly: what was impossible outside of Shopify Plus recently is now native. To put delivery in the context of your entire e-commerce project, our complete Shopify guide covers the entire chain, from creation to shipping automation. And if you're still hesitating between native and app for your specific case, that's exactly the kind of arbitration we resolve in a chat with our team.

FAQ: Mondial Relay on Shopify

How to add Mondial Relay to Shopify?

Two main methods. The first: activate the native pickup point in Settings, then Shipping and delivery, then Pickup points. Available on all plans, without an app, with the choice of point on a map before payment and labels purchased directly in the admin. The second: install the official Mondial Relay app to connect your own Mondial Relay Pro account and benefit from your negotiated rates, bulk labels, and returns.

Is the Mondial Relay app free?

No. The official Mondial Relay - InPost app costs from $14.90 to $139.90/month depending on the plan, with a 7-day trial. However, Shopify's native pickup point does not require any app: you only pay for labels, at Shopify's negotiated rates, billed to your Shopify account.

Can Mondial Relay and Colissimo be offered together?

Yes. Shopify's native pickup point manages both networks in France: the customer sees the points of both carriers at checkout and chooses the one that suits them. You activate each carrier individually in the delivery settings.

Does the customer choose their relay point at checkout?

With the native pickup point, yes: map and list of points before payment, on all plans. With the official app outside of Shopify Plus, the choice is made after payment, via the order tracking link. Clearly announced at checkout ("choice of pickup point after payment"), this deferred choice has no observed negative impact on conversion, based on our experience with dozens of stores.

Questions fréquentes

F·01

Trois causes reviennent presque toujours.
